Most long term UK expatriates or foreign nationals that may have spent time living and working in the UK have accumulated UK pension benefits. These may no longer be suitable for purpose for a variety of reasons including:
- Sterling denomination represents an ongoing currency risk. The financial crisis of 2008 highlighted the dangers of this with Sterling’s dramatic fall in value against the Euro. This result in a fall in the standard of living of many UK expatriates living within the EU. The ability to be able to denominate in Euro would eliminate this risk
- They are subject to the UK pensions tax regime and do not need to be
- The underlying investment strategy has not been reviewed for a long time and the level of risk you are taking is no longer appropriate to your life stage
- Beneficiary nominations are out of date and need to be revised
